Skyren United† - Skyren United - League III.5 - Season 14: Skyren Makes A Statement
Skyren United, with their win today at home over the previously undefeated Ducks FC have made a statement in the Canadian tier 3 soccer world but is it really the statement they want to be making.
Though they won the match, the club´s future may well have had a hit after their $4 million spending spree on the transfer market earlier today. No doubt the newcomers, midfielders Cliff Tyler, and Kristián Jenej, along with forward Ciaran Sheridan will become fixtures in the Skyren locker room for many years to come. With the oldest of them only 19 years of age many will argue that the price was worth it and will point to today´s victory as proof, however it will be years until the true cost of their acquisition will be known.
Currently their salaries amount to a collective increase in the club´s salary costs of over $40 thousand daily, and that is before one considers that Jenej´s salary comes up for renewal in just over a month. For a veteran club, the salary boost would not amount to much, but for the tier 3 newcomer Skyren United, their player salaries jump from around $100 thousand to $140 thousand daily, a 40% increase. Sure, some will argue that with one of the larger stadiums in the division, they should be able to finance this on the field improvement, however many sports analysts in Athens, think that the Skyren District club has hindered their ability to grow for the short term, and that short term stagnation might be deadly if they were to promote next season.
So, in conclusion, though a statement is definitely what the club from Skyren District has given to the rest of the division, whether it is the correct one for the long term prosperity for the club or not will only be able to measured over time.
