Trueblue United† - Fields Heads United Awards Night
Brisbane - In a darkened room, in the back of a dusty shed lies a book. In that book lies the key to Trueblue United's success in recent years.
At least, that's how how United's manager put it this week after leading his team to their 4th consecutive Division 1 title and 6th since the leagues inception.
"The key is the pre-game music. The lads all put on Blue Gillespie, crank up the sounds and rock out for precisely 13 minutes before heading out on the pitch", said the manager. "The Welsh Progressive Metal band has been a major influence on our mental game", he went on to say, speaking at the end-of-season wrap up party this week, explaining the book in question is a Libretto featuring the song lyrics off the latest album.
The awards ceremony this year saw more League records being broken, with the highlight going to Tim Fields' incredible 80 goal haul in just 41 league games. Fields also led United in scoring across all competitions, scoring in the National Cup (10), League Cup (5) and Champions League (6). It marks the first time a United player, and we believe an Aus Div 1 player, has scored 100+ goals across all competitions during a single season.
This seasons top assist awards went to Patric Steman. Playing the game off the bench for most early games the Dane soon shone in the central midfield and setting up 30 goals and scoring 7 others.
The team also formerly introduced the recently signed Striker, Yegor Repnikov. The Russian joins United's already formiddable offense and, according to the manager, was a strategic move going forward.
"Tim (Fields) and Bills (Billington) were great this season, but we felt a little short in the International Tournaments because of over-stretching our play a little. We can't expect those 2 guys to carry the team for 60+ serious games a season. We had our scouts watching Rep (Repnikov) and like what he did in II.4 back in Russia. He's a big guy with a great shot and should fit in with our big passing game."
United kick off the new season in just over 24 hours with a home opener against newly promoted noname club, 80630.
