קנדה Ontario Alpha Particles - Nuclei News: Season 3, Edition 11: Pemberton Shines as Alphas Claim Canadian National Cup

It has been a long time coming, but Zachariah Pemberton is finally starting to gain the recognition he deserves. "The Prophet" as he is called was simply outstanding, putting on a performance like no other... one that will be remembered for generations to come. He was peppered with 9 shots in the final game, stopping 8 and seeing 13 shots wide through 120 minutes. When it came to the shootout, Pemberton took his game to the final level. He stopped 3 of 4 of the Stinger's attempts to lead the Alphas to national glory.

"It is something we've wanted for a long time. We've worked hard and were a really focused group. We were without two key players but got the job done. Nothing was going to stop us" said Pemberton. "Everyone is talking about my performance. Sure I made some big saves in the shootout, but much of that is just guessing right. Our staff provides us with unlimited video from our scouts so I had a pretty good idea where they were going to shoot. I almost had Frenette's shot but it was just too perfectly placed."

What's even more remarkable, is in the run to the cup title the Alphas surrendered only 2 goals in the 8 games. Another testament to Pemberton's world-class goalkeeping ability.

"I can't take credit for this win. You have to look at what we did as a team. They had 13 shots wide. This is as much our defenders pressuring them for shots wide. It is as much our midfielders creating back pressure forcing them to shoot on weak chances. It is our forwards coming back on corner kicks and getting their players off balance for attempts at goal. It really is a team effort. I cannot take more than 1/11th the credit" said Pemberton. Pemberton has been the captain since day 1, and is a natural leader and player that fans adore.

In addition to the national cup trophy, Pemberton is poised to hoist the top I.1 goalkeeper award this season. He has been selected to the team of the day 7 times this season, with one game left it is impossible for any other goalkeepers to catch him in that category. It will only be a matter of time before it is official. Officials will be on hand for tomorrow's season finale, a home match against the Washington Generals, where Pemberton will be given the hardware.

"It really says what he's accomplished this season. We're not the strongest team in the league, but we compete day in and day out. We have exceptional leaders and Pemberton is no different. He is truly a gift to our franchise and to our community" said Ethan Purdon another seasoned veteran of OAP. Purdon is the Alphas' leading scorer and missed the final match due to suspension.

After tomorrow's match the Alphas' stars will go on a two week training retreat to prepare for the next season. It is anticipated that 12 players will be selected from the team and the rest will remain behind to participate in friendly games against other international clubs.
