Jalandher Thanedars - Canadian Senior National Team Enters Quarterfinals
Canada has taken the PPM world by storm by advancing to the quarterfinal of the Senior Mens World Championship with an upset penalty shootout victory over France's dominant team.
Canada had already created a buzz by advancing into the final 16 playoff stage for the 1st time in PPM history. By making it into the final 8, thay have done something that prior to today was thought to be unachievable.
The match was scoreless through the first half, but Canada surprisingly took the lead in the 67th minute on a powerful header by Brenden Martine off a Porter Bourque cross. Canada was hoping to hold off France in the final stages. However, an unfortunate handball in the 80th minute by Glenn Emery lead to penalty kick conversion by France. The extra time was dominated by France, but they were unable to capitalize on glorious chances. In the penalty shootout, it was Joshua 'Stumper' Woodcock that came out hero by stopping the first two French penalty attempts.
Canada's never-say-die attitude was reflected in the 26 fouls and 4 yellow cards they received against France.
Canada will now take on another PPM superpower in the form of Slovakia.
