Philadelphia FC† - Philadelphia wins 3-0, advances to League Cup final
Going into Thursday's League Cup semifinal against Shodzistic, expectations were high, as usual. Fans wanted a dominant performance.
As the game got underway, both teams came out a little bit flat. The first real opportunity for either side came in the 8th minute, when Alexandru Emanoil was brought down in the penalty area, but Shodzistic escaped with only a free kick conceded, due to a botched call by the referee. But in the 17th minute, Philadelphia would get another opportunity when Leroy Wolf pulled down Philadelphia midfielder Janis Tirelis, this time resulting in a penalty. Jesus Becquer, however, could not find the back of the net as Erik Hrasko made the save. Less than ten minutes later, Shodzistic would concede another penalty kick. This time Becquer beat Hrasko, giving Philly a 1-0 lead. That lead would stand at the half.
When the second half got underway, Philadelphia came out much better than in the first half. In the 48th minute, Pontus Englund would score on a great cross from Moric Bahil, making the game 2-0. Just 8 minutes later, Janis Tirelis would score off of a corner kick and extend the lead to three. Philadelphia would get several more chances, but would not score again. Shodzistic would only get one real chance over the course of the entire game, and would not be able to capitalize on it.
Philadelphia will now move on to the League Cup final, where they will face Addyyys Boys. In their last meeting, Philadelphia was stonewalled the entire game and lost 6-0, their worst defeat of the year. Coach Richard Pavlik is confident that Philadelphia will prevail. Jan Gorskov, Ansis Caics, and Kornel Sorocina are expected to play in the final, despite the fact that none of them have played in the League Cup tournament so far.
