Ssangyong United† - Champions and Promotion
As you may have noticed, we just stopped doing these commentaries when it proved pointless and time-consuming, but having reached a hallmark, we're delighted to announce a number of exciting news.
First of all, if the numbers go as we expect them to go, Ssangyong United will be promoting to Division II football next season, as we anticipate the draw for the Division III.6 League Cup. Although the season finish is hardly surprising given the strength of the squad, it was by far not easy or simple. For long stretches, SUFC lay behind other leaders and results certainly did not go our way. But in the final stretch, it was a tense close between SUFC and Tropical Smoothie, with both teams finishing even on wins and points. In the end, the superior goal differential will gift the title to Ssangyong United, while Tropical Smoothie will face the daunting task of attempting promotion through the play-offs. But there is one consolation that they may take, with Wesley Zamora likely to be crowned top striker in the division.
It was a close race between Belarus star Tur Korshak and Wesley Zamora, but with a goal netted in the final match separating the two players, Tur Korshak will be resigned to almost winning the award. He may yet still win a personal accolade however, with his selection in the Team of the Year still pending. Indeed, the season transfer helped transform SUFC into a killing machine, netting a total of 31 goals in 27 appearances in the league. But it was hardly a solo effort, with his contributions proving vital to the overall strength of the squad. And there is plenty of room for improvement in the squad, with many new younger players ready and willing to fill in the slots.
But an uncertain future in Division II awaits SUFC, and doubtless, the winnings earned from promotion and player awards will be directly invested into the development of the club's infrastructure, hopefully to accommodate the increased attention the club will have having won promotion into a higher league.
