JSF Lightning† - New Name! New Logo! New Sponsors! New Season!!!!
Coming off the heels of a relegation from league 1.1, manager Alvin Cheung has decided on several drastic changes for his club. Formerly FC Yoshi, Mr. Cheung has officially made the move to formally rename the team to JSF Lightning, in honour of, not only the dedication of the Canadian Armed Forces, Air Force, and Navy, but to remind Canadians that this club is proud of its roots.
Not only were they able to change their names, they even managed to entice camera giants, Fujifilm, to sign a lucrative contract for sponsorship rights on their jerseys. Fujifilm Canada president, Mr. Koshimizu told reporters, "Canada has a proud history with its commitment to peace around the world. Fujifilm has always admired the dedication and training of the armed services and through pictures, we are able to communicate effectively what our young men are going through abroad as they fight for the freedom of the oppressed." Adding to that, JSF Lightning's new logo is reflective of the new and future guardians of Canadian skies. When examining the logo, one can see a squadron of jets with the Canadian flag looming in the background.
Although JSF Lightning has been relegated to II.1, their main focus in the prior season was a National Cup victory. However, they fell short finishing 3rd after many weeks of battling. What they did accomplish was a berth in the Cup Winners' Cup and will be striving to go as far as possible while keeping up their winning tradition in II.1. With several pieces of their squad coming together, including recently purchased Chinese NT striker, Zhao Song and newly promoted Canadian NT, Jean Hilderly, this is an exciting new chapter in the team's history. When asked about the change, team captain, Shawn Engwall said, "We are proud, as a team, to retain our Canadian heritage and support our country's initiatives. With the purchase of a few international players, we feel that our squad should be able to contend for another league trophy this season. We have the pieces and the depth. Although we have had to let a few players go last season, we felt that we were dealing from a position of strength. In order to improve, we had to transfer away some of our depth in order to acquire a big name to help our team. Song has been a revelation for our team and combined with Piper, should help lead our team to carry the offence."
So with a brand new team name, team logo, team sponsors, and some new faces, the boys at JSF Lightning and their manager are raring to go and bring another trophy home for the fans.
