Kanada Ontario Alpha Particles - Nuclei News: Season 5, Edition 2: Tyson Borden Placed on IR After Freak Accident

The timing just couldn't be worse for Tyson Borden and OAP fans. The Alphas are pressing hard for a good league position and have been battling in the top third of the table for the past few weeks. In addition to that they are two wins away in the National Cup from securing a birth in next season's Cup Winners' Cup. So naturally it would make sense that the soccer gods would strike down from the heavens above and cripple the Alpha's best player, and arguably the second best player in Canada, for what will seem like an eternity. Media gathered round as Borden met with them outside of the hospital.

"Well, these things happen sometimes. It was a freak accident that's for sure. Doctors say I'll miss roughly 8-9 games but I hope to be back much earlier" said Borden. "I was putting in some community service hours after we hosted a German club in a friendly. They keep me really busy but I'm always glad to get involved. I was carrying bags of food into the local food bank when I was bumped by a fan trying to get a picture. As I was falling I didn't want to land on any of the children near by and in doing so fell awkwardly down a set of stairs fracturing my left humerus. I knew it wasn't good right away but what can you do really. The hardest part will be having to watch my teammates both here in Guelph and on Team Canada go to war without me every day."

Spectators at the event say the fan who bumped Borden was said to be wearing a Grassmen jersey, the Alpha's next opponent in the national cup.

"We have a good working relationship with the Grassmen. They're a strong second division club who will be here in I.1 soon. If it was one of their fans we have no illusions it was a freak accident and it was not a planned attack. Had it been a Wallaceburg Walking Dead fan we would have our suspicions" said the Alpha's Public Relations Officer.

"Borden leaves big shoes to fill. Our new prospect in Thom Knight will likely take the brunt of the workload and perhaps some time to our prime CB prospect Witold Bogut. We are confident in our depth, it is just hard to fill Borden's shoes, regardless of the quality of players you have on your team" said canucks357 via conference call from Vancouver where the Alphas are set to take on the struggling but very strong Bordeaux. "They're an exceptional team. They've got a lot of good things going on there. World class manager and top flight stadium too. It won't be easy, but if there is one thing for certain, I know my guys are motivated as ever. We've had meetings and they're tired of this mini skid we are on. With or without Borden they're determined to snap out of it. I suppose time will tell if that's just words."
