Going into Thursday's match, Philadelphia FC had managed minor success, with a 9-2-8 record. They were coming off of a 1-1 draw at AC Austin and looking to make a statement against the 18th place Cheesecakes.

It was obvious from early on that Philadelphia was the better club. In the 19th minute, the Cheesecakes' Ed lenhart was sent off on a red card, making it an even tougher challenge for them to contain Philadelphia. By the time that Lenhart was sent off, Philadelphia FC had already had 3 attempts on goal. In the 34th minute, Philadelphia took advantage of the Cheesecakes' poor play, with Reily King scoring to make it a 1-0 game. That lead held until the half. Philadelphia's defence was dominant in the first half, as they allowed just one shot, which went wide. They would allow none in the second half.

As the second half got underway, Philadeplhia turned it up a notch. Ramond Landers would score in the 52nd minute off of a great pass from Joe Young to make it a 2-0 game. Philadelphia would not score again unitl the 82nd minute, when Joe Yound put one past goalie David Roberts to extend the lead to 3-0. Just one minute later, Reily King put in his second goal of the afternoon to push the lead to 4-0. It seemed that the Stars would score again, but they did not. Instead, the match went final at 4-0.

Reily King was named the man of the match, and he, along with Joe Young, both made the team of the day. Philadelphia's next game is on Sunday away against 16th place San Luis FC.
