Spratly Islands FC† - Successful player sale launches a new era
The Bohol Raiders announced today the successful completion of its large player sale and the start up of a new world class stadium. Coach David Cox elaborated.
"The Raiders completed the painful task of letting go many of our finest veterans. As we said last week, we realize this is going to give the club a lot of short term pain. There are a lot of great veteran clubs out there that are well prepared to take advantage of the Raider emphasis to its 20 and 21 year old intermediate players. Still if the club wants to have the long term growth necessary to compete on the world stage, the move was absolutely necessary. We know have a core group of 22 very good players including 3 veterans who are destined for long careers. There will no doubt be tweaks to the lineup in the following seasons, but were very happy for now with this core group of players to help us move to the next level."
"In making this bold new step the club also realizes its going to need a lot more revenue in the future. The club as therefore decided to use the bulk of the sale proceeds to the construction of a new world class stadium. Construction has already started. The stadium and with it a large new media contract will completed by the end of the season. Boxes will be built and leased out by early next season."
'Again we want to emphasize don't have large expectations this season. We do hope to qualify for one of next seasons major tournaments. Our idea is to take all the pain of transition in one season. Our priority will be to get the new players on the field build chemistry and experience. So for others enjoy our weakness for now. Beware of the Raiders in season 13. We will be back at full force."
