Bow Valley AFC† - Bow Valley AFC: Season 4 Opening Day
Spring is in the air in Southern Alberta today as Bow Valley AFC gets ready to play it's first match of the new season at newly renovated Mewata Stadium.
The Red and Grey will play host to the Stoney Creek Hotspur, a team that gave them a bit of trouble last season, going 0-1-1 against them. Both teams from all accounts will be fairly similar to last seasons squads, so we should expect a close match again today.
Expected to make his BV AFC debut today is 16 year old prodigy Kody Graham. Early comparisons to the great Patrice Evra have put high expectations on this left defender. One of the best prospects in all the nation, he is expected to play a big role right from the get go, especially with star CD Malakai Coutu out for the first 3 matches of this season to serve out his suspension from the end of season 3.
The rest of the team should seem very similar to fans of the Red and Grey, as all 10 other starters have seen considerable play in the past 3 seasons. Despite injuries slowing down the progress of starting goalkeeper Fred Finlay, fans will be glad to see that he will be the starter for a fourth and possible final season.
The key to this opening day match is to score early to take control of the play away from the Hotspurs. They need to show that they can beat Stoney Creek if they want any chance of another top 10 finish in I.1. Game time is at 2:30 MT, and can be seen on PPM TV and heard on the FAN 960.
