Canada Ontario Alpha Particles - Nucleii News: Season 1, Edition 1: First Month Wrap Up

The Ontario Alpha Particles have just completed their first month of league play in Canada's I.1 of soccer. O.A.P. are the second team under canucks357 management and along with the Guelph Gryphons, make up the 'Nucks Sports and Entertainment group. While there are plans to expand to new sports, the Alphas are the new arrivals to the family and have represented the franchise well.

The Alphas are sitting firmly at the top of I.1 standings. Along with NK Divlje Jagode the Alphas are already distancing themselves from the pack. However, the results have not all been what one would hoped. The Alphas started off with two ties against noname teams but recovered well going undefeated in league play the rest of the month finishing with a tie against another noname team. The stretch of undefeated league play along with strong friendly play as the Alphas ranked #1 in the Canadian National Cup.

"I think being ranked #1 is a good honour, but at the same time we know we started the year with the easiest part of our schedule. We've faced a series of noname teams and won't see another opponent of such stature until the end of July. We go to battle against NK Divlje Jagode next and from there on out each point will be hard earned" said Captain Zach Pemberton the goalkeeper who has given up 1 goal in ten competitive matches which occurred in the first league game. "We have lots to work on. Our last game we tied 0-0 against a noname and had much more possession and had 14 CKs to their 1. We really need to work on our patience and build-up."

The Alphas were considered a long-shot out of the gate. The preliminary scouting ranked them in the bottom 10% of the teams. "A preliminary scout said that on average our players were 10 OR worse then the average player of other teams. I think that just fed our desire to win. We play hard each night and respect the defensive zone" said Pemberton. If the Alphas are to overcome such a 'disadvantage' in the coming games against strong opposition, Pemberton will have to be the key. His strong play is the reason why the Alphas currently have a strong goaltender rating of 20.

In other news, fans are showing their support of the Alphas. Curium-244 Place has come to near capacity in recent games with more than 2,000 fans coming to see their future stars in action. If the Alphas can continue their strong play and can stay healthy, they should be a joy to watch for years to come.
